Is your sedentary lifestyle killing you

The new disease of the 21st century.


I went back to work on 9 January 2017 and felt so awful from a sedentary desk job that I started walking and exercising.


Once I considered how unwell a lot of sitting can do to a human being that was enough to get me off the couch and walking and jogging 4 kms a day or at least 3 to 4 times a week.

I feel fantastic now and have made it a lifestyle choice. There are so many parks and streets and nature reserves to walk on and venture through the choice is astounding.  Knowing and educating yourself about the illnesses of a sedentary lifestyle was enough to make me start to take notice and action.

Half an hour a day and some resistance training is manageable given our time constraints of a very busy lifestyle. We really need to start moving more. We also need to start eating more natural foods instead of processed foods.

A sedentary lifestyle together with processed foods and eating too many fast foods is a recipe for disaster and many illnesses which can be avoided.


Consider for a moment how many hours you spend at a desk job or in front of the tv.


A growing body of research shows that long periods of physical inactivity raise your risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and obesity.


In January 2010, British experts linked prolonged periods of sitting to a greater likelihood of disease. And that same month, Australian researchers reported that each hour spent watching TV is linked to an 18% increase in the risk of dying from cardiovascular disease.
